Khorshid
I was approached by Lil Aroosak to create a candle label for her summer 2022 scent “Khorshid” meaning “sun” in Persian. I wanted the label to incorporate Persian motifs such as Khorshid Khanom (Lady Sun) and Qajar era stylings such as the unibrow, all mixed together with a 70s summer-y vibe.
Ârezu
The next scent we worked on was for her fall/winter 2022 line. The name “Ârezu” meaning “desire” or “dream,” is supposed to bring up warm thoughts of spending time with family and drinking hot tea. I decided to use a Qajar style “Shah Abbas” tea set as the focal point while including other traditional Iranian objects such as a Ghalam-kari table cloth and a Khatam-kari backgammon board.
Roshani
This label was done for the second candle in the client's fall/winter 2022 line. “Roshani” meaning “illuminate” is a tribute to her mother. I wanted to create an inviting scene of women having fun & enjoying each other’s company. The scene was inspired by vintage Fal-e-Hafez cards, which are frequently used to tell fortunes during the December holiday Yalda.
Shirzan
"Shirzan," meaning "courageous woman" in Persian, was the next label we collaborated on. This candle is inspired by the client’s grandmother, being courageous, and having the faith to blaze ahead. She wanted the label to include a lion and evoke Persian rugs. I took a literal route with this design as “shir” means "lion" and “zan” means "woman." Playing on the lion holding a sword motif, I gave the lion woman a crocus (saffron) flower to give her a softer edge.
Joonam
A candle inspired by love. The client originally wanted a traditional door with flowers surrounding it. After playing with this idea a bit, I decided to throw in a concept inspired by Reza Abbasi's The Lovers painting inspired by the word "Joonam" which means "my soul." We ended up moving forward with this idea and added to the Persian-ness of the piece by adding borders.
